Mountain West Conference Women’s Soccer

November 10, 2010

It’s 89 degrees. I’m on the top of a parking garage on the San Diego State University campus. Oh yeah, I flew in from Denver wearing jeans, a jacket, and a fleece vest. Time to go change. That particular parking garage roof is home to the very soccer field where the 2010 Mountain West Conference Women’s Soccer Championships were held. Three days of chaotic soccer action have me grinning ear to ear as the suns light becomes beautifully directional. I’m in photographic heaven. Enjoy some of my favorites.

Courtyard by Marriott’s new look

October 18, 2010

Last week we received a call from the folks over at Edelman wanting us to head over to Denver International Airport to photograph a new pop-up Refreshing Business lobby for Courtyard by Marriott. The space was small so I knew there would be a certain challenge in creating unique and diverse content for our client. It was a blast. I, like many others, tend to enjoy the pressure from time to time. It truly is what advances my photography. Have a look.

Signs of the season

September 30, 2010

The transition of summer’s warmth to autumn’s cold fall mornings can only mean one thing. Opening day in the high country. Last year I had the distinct pleasure of catching three opening days. Loveland, the very first in North America, Arapahoe Basin, and Vail were all on the calendar. This rowdy crew waited in the parking lot all night to successfully secure their first chair status. SKI Magazine picked up my image for a double-truck in their Fall 2010 issue. Here’s to large quantities of snow in the mountains this season.

Shifting Light

September 21, 2010

Seasons change. Along with the change the light moves toward different places within Coors Field creating unique backlighting and pockets of light worthy of exploring.

NCAA Champion Magazine

September 8, 2010

The folks at Ashland University in Ohio could not have been more accommodating or patient. Ryan Avery, an outfielder on their baseball team, was our cover subject for the Summer 2010 issue of NCAA Champion Magazine. Myself and the art director, Arnel Reynon, scouted locations for a while and decided the baseball stadium was our best option. We decided on a late afternoon/early evening start time and although we had no sunset to work with on that particular day we worked the heck out of the possibilities awarded us. Within a couple hours we photographed Ryan in the outfield, the batting cage, the dugout and the base paths. This shoot worked because we built a friendly rapport with the subject and made it fun for all involved. We kept it light and engaging and it had the feel of us all working on a project together to come up with some great results. I wish all subjects could be like Ryan.
