The Fall 2012 NCAA Champion Magazine features Ashley Priess, a gymnast from the University of Alabama. Having clinched a national championship for her school on the beam last year, I knew heading down to Tuscaloosa that we really wanted to show her on that apparatus. Here is how it turned out.

For TABPI, the Trade Association of Business Publications International, the Tabbie Awards represent the best in trade publications from medical, digital, to everything in between.
The 2012 Tabbie Awards featured nearly 500 entries, with nominations coming from the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, France, India, Singapore and South Africa.
Photographer, Jamie Schwaberow, won the Gold Tabbie Award for his cover photograph of NCAA Champion Magazine featured below. The judging comments were “This photograph is great… the basketballs frame the subject perfectly, it’s colorful without being distracting and it sets a great tone. The copy balances the photograph nicely.”
Photographers like Schwaberow at RCA shoot the Champion Magazine covers on a quarterly basis profiling certain student athletes excelling within NCAA athletics.

This weekend we produced two pieces for the BCS Championship Game in New Orleans.
First, we showed up early to document the ‘love for the game’ and the passion that drives both teams and their strong base of fans.
Secondly, as NCAA photos we turned the game into a moving time-lapse of photos showing the excitement of the game (minus the score!).

This past weekend I had the great fortune to document the love of basketball that exists within the hearts of many Native Americans. We covered a couple basketball tournaments at tribal colleges in rural Montana and spent some time on the Crow Agency Reservation. The NCAA Champion Magazine article has not been published yet, so we don’t want to show too much, but here is a quick preview.

The latest NCAA Champion Magazine was published this week with Indiana’s Andrew Poore gracing the cover. This is the 11th cover I’ve shot for this magazine. We photographed him at the Rooftop Quarry in Bloomington, IN, made famous in the 1979 film Breaking Away.
