Clarkson debuts wireless image transmission at Winter X Games 15

February 8, 2011

After a trial run in Los Angeles for Summer X Games 16, Clarkson debuted near-real-time image transmission from the Buttermilk mountainside during Winter X Games 15 in Aspen, CO this past week for ESPN.com/Action.  With assistance from Nikon Professional Services, the team of photographers, including Clarkson staff Joshua Duplechian and Brett Wilhelm, plus freelancers Mark Kohlman and Trevor Brown, Jr. were able to quickly select, edit, crop and transmit images via an ESPN staff wireless network using attached Nikon WT4-a wireless transmitters.

Images were transmitted directly to the ESPN Action Sports Images Photoshelter site via a custom FTP account, publishing images to a private gallery for staff use, primarily edited by Wilhelm, ESPN.com/Action director of photography for the event.  Images were then passed to the front page of xgames.com and espn.com for realtime promotion of live video and event coverage.

Much of that work may be viewed in the daily image galleries and photo coverage on www.xgames.com and a best of gallery posted here: http://espn.go.com/action/photos/gallery/_/id/6038639/n/1/

Clarkson will be instituting similar wireless capabilities across their client’s larger events throughout 2011

Editors at the base of the mountain viewed a constantly updated private gallery of transmitted photos from events still in progress.

Edited images were then posted to the front pages of xgames.com

and to espn.com in near real time to promote live TV programming and event coverage.
