Denver International Airport

July 26, 2010

The Denver International Airport is the only major airport to be built in the United States in the last 25 years. They are a relatively new client of ours and have provided us with the amazing opportunity to use our creativity for internal uses which include the publication of an annual calendar as well. DIA opened it’s doors on February 28,1995 and sits on 34,000 acres of land 23 miles northeast of downtown Denver,Colorado. Several appointments throughout the weeks have us heading out and documenting daily life as we see it through the camera. Here is a recent take from a visit. As always thanks for taking a look.

Jason Giambi Cover Shoot

July 21, 2010

Often portraits, especially those slated for a cover, can be well involved productions with lights, assistants, and location scouting. For the Colorado Rockies first baseman, Jason Giambi, the concept for the August cover was kept relatively simple. One light source, that being the afternoon sun and a reflector to add the fill. The editors at the magazine wanted a final image that had a black and white documentary feel while utilizing the steel beams of Coors Field as a way to describe Giambi’s strength. Keep checking back as there will be a post soon about the more complex shoots described earlier. As always, thanks for looking.

2010 Raw Nationals

July 19, 2010

Tuesday morning meetings are fantastic. Here at Rich Clarkson and Associates one item that often enters the conversation is the need and desire for us to start projects. They can be personal in nature or deal with our existing clients. Whatever the outcome it never seems to matter as long as the project results in the photographer learning something new or the project can be shown to potential clients in order to keep creating for a living. This past weekend I started work on one project I’m hoping will provide numerous learning experiences for all involved. In my opinion, everyone wins in these situations. I feed the beast that is creativity and in return our clients and potential clients get a product and a photographer that is full of energy. Here are a few of the outtake stills I shot during a primarily video style day on Saturday. Thanks to everyone at the 2010 Raw Nationals for being so kind and generous with their time.

High School Baseball

July 15, 2010

Gorgeous light, sunflower seeds, cheers from behind home plate, and to top it all off used peanut shells as a scoreboard. All this packaged with photographer access that would rival the most trusting of subjects describes the Colorado Rockies sponsored Reviving Baseball in Inner City leagues or better know as RBI. There are over 200 of these Major League Baseball funded teams throughout the nation and roughly 525 kids ages 13-18 in Denver alone. This summer league comes at no cost and carries the goal of getting kids out to combat the affects of gangs and drugs within larger cities.

Seasonal Light

July 9, 2010

As the Colorado Rockies season meets its halfway point the light starts to bend and shape just about everything within the gates. Below is a sampling of the light from photographer Jamie Schwaberow during his coverage of the Rockies vs. Red Sox series a couple of weeks ago. Stay tuned because the light is always changing.
